ABOUT The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation
The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America is a non-profit volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding the cures for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Founded over 40 years ago, The Foundation has remained the forefront of research in IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) research. Today, it funds cutting-edge studies at major medical institutes, nurtures investigators at the early stages of their careers, and finances underdeveloped areas of research.
The Foundation also provides resources and programs, including Camp Oasis. I have been 4 summers, and I always love it. It is a place where you have a voice, and where having IBD gets to feel normal.

What does it mean to be on the Lucky 15 Take Steps Team?
Are you interested in joining the Lucky 15 Take Steps team? Are you super confused by the whole team thing, don't have any clue what it is or why you should be a team member? Well, let me tell you why you should join the 2017 Take Steps team for Lucky 15!
1. It is at the Houston Zoo! Let me say that again, the HOUSTON ZOO! The walk is in the morning, so you will be admitted to the zoo as a member of the Lucky 15 team for the walk, but get this, you can stay as you as like after the walk! Yes, you can stay after walk and get "free" admission to go see the gorillas, the lions, whatever your heart desires. Another benefit of having it at the zoo, the walk portion of the event will be along the paths of the zoo right by the animals. That means as you are walking to support patients with Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, you are admiring the beautiful and cool animals at the zoo!
2. It supports patients with Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis! I, Kelly Lyons, am the team captain of the Lucky 15 team, and also a patient with Crohn's Disease. All the money raised for and during these walks goes toward funding medical research and patient programs through the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America in the hopes of finding a cure for these chronic illnesses. It is a great, interactive way to participate and support your friends, family, and fellow community members that are battling these life-long challenges.
3. There are many more reasons why you should join the team, but no matter what the reason, it would mean so much to me to have all my friends, family, and supporters with me at the walk! It is an event that makes you feel less alone and isolated by having IBD, and it makes it even more special to be surrounded by those who care about you.
Now, what does it mean to be on my team? All you need to do is raise or donate $25! If you need help raising money, just let me know and you can help me sell wristbands or shirts or something! If you can just raise or donate $25, it makes a huge difference. The Houston walk is also implementing a new program that rewards participants who raise $100 OR MORE! You not only get an adult ticket to the walk and a free 13 year and younger ticket, you earn special prizes and the chance to hang out under a special area at the walk. The more you raise, the better our team does and the better our community as IBD patients does in our fight for a cure. Second, you get to come to the super cool, previously mentioned walk at the Houston Zoo. You get to be a part of the festivities and the good times while we all celebrate our progress and rally for our future progress. Lastly, you get a big hug from me!
I hope you join the team, it is such a great time and I would love to have you!

Kelly's Lucky 15 Take Steps Team
CCFA 2014 Youth Ambassador
January 25th, 2014, I was honored with the opportunity to speak at the Women of Distinction Ball benefiting the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation! As the Youth Ambassador, I was invited to celebrate 10 of Houston's finest, most giving ladies and share my story to help raise funds and awareness. I am still so grateful for the chance to have met such influential and kind people, and I made new friends and supporters of Lucky 15. The event raised over $830,000 for Crohn's and Colitis Research! Thank you to everyone who made it a night I will remember forever. -Kelly
